Interim Principals at HHS and KMS Family Letter
November 1, 2021
Dear Hamtramck Families –
Thank you for your continued commitment to Hamtramck Public Schools. As you may be aware, I am serving as the interim superintendent during Superintendent Ahmed’s temporary leave. I am proud to expand my duties to serve our families and community, and I greatly look forward to working closely with you and your children in the upcoming months.
At HPS, it’s vital we provide our scholars with the support needed for continued growth. To that end, we wanted to make you aware of recent staff changes at Kosciuszko Middle School and Hamtramck High
School to benefit our scholars.
Mr. Anthony Kiner will be back at Hamtramck High School serving as interim principal effective today, Nov. 1. Mr. Kiner was previously the assistant principal at Hamtramck High School before he was named
principal at Kosciuszko Middle School. We are eager to see him expand his role at the high school to support the district as we, like the majority of school districts across Michigan, deal with staffing challenges resulting from the pandemic in a way that will minimize disruption to our high school
As Mr. Kiner joins the high school, Ms. Kristen Hurt will be elevated from her role as assistant principal at KMS to serve as interim principal. Her familiarity with the students, faculty and staff at KMS will help ease the transition, allowing us to continue to drive the academic, social and emotional growth of our middle school students during a critical time in their development.
These shifts ensure each school is equipped with expertise, talent and resources for its students and staff members to thrive. I am confident our new interim principals will step into their roles with the same integrity and tenacity they have provided our district for years and will make an excellent fit as interim principals.
I know our interim principals look forward to meeting our families and students in their new roles. Should you have any questions regarding these staffing changes, please contact your children’s school directly.
