Attendance
Attendance Matters: In Class Is Where It’s At!
At Hamtramck Public Schools, we believe that every school day matters. Being in class gives students opportunities to learn new skills, participate in activities, build friendships, and connect with their teachers and school community.
Through the Stronger Connections initiative, Hamtramck Public Schools partnered with HQ22 Creatives to develop the In Class Is Where It’s At! attendance campaign. This campaign encourages students and families to recognize the importance of regular school attendance and the positive role it plays in student learning and success.
Why does attendance matter?
When students attend school regularly, they have more opportunities to:
Build on what they learn each day.
Participate in classroom activities and discussions.
Develop relationships with classmates and teachers.
Build routines that support learning and responsibility.
Feel connected to their school community.
How can families support attendance?
Families can help by establishing a consistent bedtime and morning routine, planning ahead for the school day, and talking with their children about the importance of being at school. When possible, schedule appointments outside school hours.
We also understand that illness, transportation, family circumstances, and other challenges can affect attendance. If your family needs support, please contact your child’s school. We are here to work with you.
