Safe Firearm Storage Law in Michigan

As part of our commitment to student safety and in compliance with Michigan law, we are sharing an important informational flyer from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) regarding the state’s safe‐storage requirements for firearms in homes where minors may be present. 

The flyer explains the new secure‐storage law (effective February 13 2024) that requires firearms to be stored unloaded and locked with a device, or kept in a locked container, if a minor is, or reasonably could be, present in the home. (Michigan) It also outlines the potential legal penalties should a minor obtain a firearm due to unsafe storage. (Michigan) We encourage all families to review the flyer carefully and ensure that any firearms in your home are stored safely and out of reach of children.
